Jon Bernthal married trauma nurse Erin Angle in 2010, after 10 years of dating.

The ‘Odyssey’ star and his wife share three children: Henry, born in 2011, Billy, born in 2013, and Adeline, born in 2015.

Bernthal brought his daughter, who’s also an actor, to the L.A. premiere of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day.’

Jon Bernthal is having a banner year with roles in highly anticipated blockbusters like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, and his family is by his side for every milestone.

The actor and wife Erin Angle, a trauma nurse, have been married for nearly 16 years and together for over 25. “My marriage with her, it’s very aspirational,” Bernthal said on Today while promoting The Odyssey. “Like, I’m still begging her to go out with me, begging her to hang out with me.”

Jon and Angle share three children: sons Henry and Billy, and daughter Adeline Bernthal. You might recognize Adeline—or Addie, as her family calls her—from her time playing Jon’s on-screen daughter Lisa in the 2026 Disney+ special The Punisher: One Last Kill.

Unlike Addie, the couple’s sons don’t seem to have the acting bug (yet), but they are impressed by one of his co-stars. At the Spider-Man: Brand New Day L.A. premiere, the actor told Entertainment Tonight about the time Tom Holland wowed his children “before anybody knew he was Spider-Man.” His secret to captivating the kids? Some epic gymnastics moves.

“We went to a trampoline park, him and my kids, and (Holland) was doing backflips…you know, he’s a great athlete. And my kids, he’s their hero, but it has nothing to do with Spider-Man,” Bernthal explained.

Of course, their favorite hero will always be their dad. Ahead, learn more about Jon Bernthal’s family, including the surprising celebrity who helped him win his now-wife back during a brief split.

Jon Bernthal married longtime love Erin Angle in 2010, a decade after they had a fateful meeting at a party in Washington, D.C.

“I came over and was just rudely messing around, and I know this is the corniest thing in the world, but when I actually saw Erin, it was literally like angels were singing,” Bernthal recalled to Men’s Health in 2018, adding, “I had never seen anyone so beautiful.”

The then-fledgling actor and the trauma nurse dated near-continually for the next 10 years, save for a break where Angle left their L.A. digs for San Francisco. Jon knew he had to win her back with a grand gesture, so he turned to country icon Willie Nelson for help. “I snuck backstage. I found this beautiful postcard and wrote Willie this long letter and rolled him a beautiful joint and told him the situation with me and my woman,” he shared in his Men’s Health interview. “I told him she’s a good-hearted woman in love with a good-timin’ man, and I asked him to play this one song, ‘Always on My Mind,’ for us, and he did.”

Fast forward to 2018, and the Walking Dead alum was able to bring his wife and kids to a Nelson concert. He told Men’s Health, “I’m sitting there at the show with my kids and thinking, ‘This is the best moment of my life. This is peace.’”

In an Esquire cover story the same year, Jon revealed he’s not the only one with star connections. “[My wife] comes from a family of champion wrestlers,” he said, referencing her uncle, retired pro wrestler Kurt Angle.

In September 2025, the couple celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary. Jon took to Instagram to share a romantic tribute to his wife, complete with a throwback wedding photo. “I love you Lil Bird. At the end of the day, you’re the whole darn thing,” he wrote in the caption.

More recently, he’s shared her reaction to the lengths he goes to for some of his roles—including growing a beard and shaving his head to play Menelaus in The Odyssey. “[She was] not a fan of the beard at all,” he said during his Today appearance, adding, “That was a big beard too. No bueno in my home.”

The actor told Men’s Health in 2018 that both his sons have done jiu-jitsu since they were 2 years old, but he doesn’t just emphasize the importance of sports. “I want them to learn how to play piano and do their schoolwork with the exact same level of fierceness,” he explained to the outlet.

“Whatever they do in this world, I’m okay with it, as long as they go full bore. That’s the real challenge of fatherhood, to try to divorce yourself from your own bullshit and to realize I want these kids to be better than me,” he added. “I don’t want them to make the same mistakes I did.”

Jon’s social media features several posts about his firstborn, from a 2022 snap of them sporting matching temporary back tattoos on a trip to Ireland to a 2024 selfie of father and son by a stream. “My Best friend.  My Battle Buddy. My heart. I love you and miss you, Henry Waylon Jennings Bernthal,” the actor captioned the post.

In June 2025, Jon shared that a 13-year-old Henry was beginning to outgrow the dad’s-best-friend stage of childhood. “He’s doing something very natural, but it kills me,” the Emmy Award winner told The New York Times. The article noted that Jon wears a boxing-glove pendant that belongs to Henry, a subtle way to keep his son close while he’s on set.

Jon became a dad again in 2013, as he and Angle welcomed younger son Billy Bernthal.

In February 2015, a 2-year-old Billy made a cameo on his dad’s social media as Jon shared a cute selfie of him and his sons enjoying ice cream on Oscar night. “The real Oscar party!” he captioned the photo.

As Billy has grown up, his dad has given him the nickname “Ill Bill” for his prowess on the football field and the basketball court. Jon loves to share clips to Instagram of his son’s games on Instagram. But he’s not just cheering on athletic ability—he’s also instilling Billy and eldest son Henry with the values he thinks matter most. “I want them to see kindness as masculine, not a sign of weakness,” he previously told Esquire.

In the same interview, Jon said Billy “isn’t afraid of anything. He’s going to have to learn things on his own.”

Billy is growing up out of the spotlight, but he has attended a few events with his famous father. In 2016, Billy and his two siblings joined both their parents on the red carpet for the L.A. premiere of Finding Dory.

Adeline “Addie” Bernthal

Jon and Angle’s only daughter, Adeline “Addie” Bernthal, was born in 2015.

Early in life, Addie faced a health scare when she had a seizure and fell into a coma at just 2 years old. Jon recalled the incident in his Men’s Health interview, noting that she was eventually diagnosed with the bacterial infection encephalitis. The actor dropped out of the film First Man to be with his family, and held it together in the difficult period with the help of his wife.

“People talk about bravery like fake macho bravery, but my wife didn’t flinch,” he said. “What I saw in my wife was courage and beauty unlike I’d ever seen.” He added that the trauma nurse was “pouring love into our daughter every step of the way.”

Thankfully, Addie made a full recovery and is now thriving as a budding actress. When Jon filmed The Punisher: One Last Kill with her playing his on-screen daughter, he admitted to GQ, “it cracked me. It broke me.”

More recently, Addie was her father’s plus-one at the L.A. premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The 11-year-old wore an on-theme red dress for the event, accessorizing with a white purse and block heels.
