Fans have reacted to Taylor Fritz naming NBA star LeBron James as the most famous person in America, with some questioning the American tennis star’s choice.

Fritz recently represented Team World at the Laver Cup from Sept. 25 to 27, where he lost all three of his matches. On the opening day, he and Alexander Bublik lost to Carlos Alcaraz and Jakub Mensik in straight sets in the doubles event.

On Day 2, the American lost to Alcaraz in singles before teaming up with Alex de Minaur on the final day. The pair lost to Flavio Cobolli and Mensik in doubles as Team Europe eventually won the title 13-5. During his time at the Laver Cup, Fritz and other players were asked in a TNT Sports interview to name the most famous person from their respective countries. Fritz and Brandon Nakashima both named James.

The response quickly went viral online, with some fans pushing back against the idea that the NBA star is the most famous person in the United States. One fan on Instagram wrote:

“Americans really think LeBron James is famous?”

Another user disagreed with Fritz’s choice, writing:

“Rarely anyone knows LeBron James.”

Taylor Fritz opens up about his 2025 Japan Open final against Carlos Alcaraz

Before beginning his Japan Open campaign, Taylor Fritz spoke about his 2025 final against Alcaraz in a pre-tournament interview on Sept. 30. Reflecting on the match, the American recalled the high level of tennis and explained how Alcaraz turned the set around.

“Yeah, I remember the level was really high and I remember because the level was so high, it’s always so physical when I have to play Carlos. I did something to my like it was like my adductor or my quad or something like that and I wasn’t maybe I think I just wasn’t serving as well afterwards but I remember playing just a really high level first set,” said Taylor Fritz.

He added:

“He played like couple, remember one specific point he played to get out of like a tight situation where I could have broken him like where it was just like too good you know the kind of point that I like probably only Carlos can play and then he kind of just turned right around and broke me and then that was set. But yeah, I remember it being very high level in the beginning. And overall good memories of Tokyo.”

Taylor Fritz is expected to compete next at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, scheduled for October 5 to 18 in Shanghai, China.
