Carl Franklin, the beloved '90s actor and director, turns 77 years old today.
Born on April 11, 1949 in Richmond, Virginia, Franklin began his career in the 1970s, performing in stage theater before transitioning to television and film roles. In 1973, he made his on-screen debut, portraying Marvin in Five on the Black Hand Side.
His early career was defined by a series of recurring television roles, appearing in shows such as Caribe (1975), The Fantastic Journey (1977) and McClain's Law (1981-1982). Franklin's most notable role was Captain Crane on the hit series, The A-Team (1983–1985), a performance that significantly contributed to his recognition as an actor.

After graduating with a M.F.A. from the AFI Conservatory in 1986, Franklin shifted his focus toward directing. His feature directorial debut came in 1989 with the crime thriller Nowhere to Run. He directed a series of low-budget films before garnering critical acclaim for his 1992 breakout film, One False Move.

Throughout his directing career, Franklin has achieved significant recognition for his work. His most notable projects include One False Move (1992), Devil in a Blue Dress (1995), One True Thing (1998), Out of Time (2003) and High Crimes (2002), working with major stars such as Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep and Denzel Washington.
Since 2010, Franklin has continued his directorial work on high-profile television series, earning credits on The Pacific (2010), House of Cards (2013), Mindhunter (2017) and Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2022).
