Jackson's own nephew, Jaafar Jackson, the son of Michael's brother Jermaine Jackson, stepped into the biopic's titular role

Bigi Jackson and Prince Jackson are honoring their father's legacy.

On Friday, April 10, Michael Jackson's sons appeared at the world premiere of Michael, a new biopic about the King of Pop. They both wore black single-breasted suits, while Bigi, 24, opted for a white collared shirt and Prince, 29, wore red.

The brothers also both sported a gold crown decal on their suit jackets as well as armbands, a nod to their dad's signature look. While Michael wore the armbands largely as a symbol of helping children in need, his sons' armbands featured a photo of Michael's feet in one of the singer's iconic dance moves.

The upcoming biopic by Lionsgate will highlight Michael's "life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career," per the official synopsis.

“The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances,” the statement continues. “As never before, audiences will experience an inside look into one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known.”

The biographical movie is set to cover all aspects of the singer's life.

Stepping into the iconic shoes of the musician is Jackson's own nephew, Jaafar Jackson, who is the son of Michael's brother Jermaine Jackson.

"I never dreamed to be an actor or even thought of playing him. But I knew it was a calling," Jaafar said in a behind-the-scenes video for the film. "Embodying Michael, I really had to earn the role and prove to the filmmakers that I was capable of becoming Michael. Essentially, it was starting at the roots and finding the authenticity."

Jaafar was selected for the role after a worldwide casting search was conducted.

In January 2024, Lionsgate announced that 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi had been cast to portray a young Jackson, since the film covers his rise to fame with his brothers in the Jackson 5.

That same month, it was announced that Oscar-nominated Rustin actor Colman Domingo was cast as Jackson family patriarch Joe Jackson.

Nia Long will portray the Jackson matriarch Katherine Jackson. Long called her character "an incredible pillar of strength and grace for the entire Jackson family."

She added, "As a mother, she was selfless and endured forces beyond her control yet still managed to help build a legacy beyond measure. I am honored to bring her voice to the screen and share Michael Jackson's story with audiences everywhere.”
