Christina Applegate is “doing very well” following a months-long hospital stay amid her battle with multiple sclerosis.
The actress announced in 2021 that she was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease and has been candid about how it affects her health.
“I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough,” she told fans in April.

The Anchormanactress was reportedly discharged and is “doing very well” following her extended hospitalization, a source told PEOPLE on Aug. 4. This update comes months after TMZ reported in April that she was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital in late March amid her battle with multiple sclerosis.
Her rep told Entertainment Weekly at the time, “I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are. She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”

Applegate her fans on Instagram on April 20, thanking them for their support following her reported hospitalization. “Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day,” she wrote at the time.
“I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough,” she added.
Applegate announced that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021 on social media, calling it “a strange journey.”
“But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition,” she said. “It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a--hole blocks it.”
She previously underwent a double mastectomy in 2008 after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Applegate has been open about her health journey since her diagnosis, speaking about it on the MeSsypodcast with Sopranosactress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who was diagnosed with MS in her 20s while shooting the HBO series and sharing the diagnosis publicly in 2016.

The Dead to Meactress revealed in March 2025 that at that point, she had been hospitalized “upwards of 30 times” due to “throwing up and diarrhea and pain,” calling it “unimaginable.”
“They’ve done every test known to man on me, put so much radiation into my body from CT scans to everything else. And literally just in the last month, I have figured it out,” Applegate said on MeSsy at the time.

In May 2025, Applegate offered a candid look into her daily life with MS. “I don’t really leave the house anymore,” Applegate admitted during an appearance on Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend. “I mean, if people saw what my life was like on the daily, they wouldn’t be able to do it because I can sometimes not do it. It’s really, really hard.”
She also said that, at first, the stigma “was hard to swallow.”
“Because, why the F would you think that I would do something to have this?” Applegate said. “Because this is the worst thing I’ve ever had in my life. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever gone through.”
