Gilmore Girls is officially returning to HBO Max. However, the recent announcement about the famous show might not please its fans. HBO Max is bringing back Stars Hollow’s nostalgia. In a recent announcement, the streaming platform confirmed that an official Gilmore Girls documentary will debut on the platform soon.
The film, which will reportedly be narrated by Amy Sherman-Palladino, who is the creator of the series, is currently in the production stage. The official logline, as quoted by Variety, “reveals how the show eclipsed expectations to become a cross-generational phenomenon by unpacking the unique alchemy of the creators, cast, crew and collaborators. The film includes never-before-seen outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage and script pages.”
Gilmore Girls was one of the popular sitcoms that ran for seven seasons. As the show concluded back in 2007, the latest announcement might not be exciting enough for the fans, as they would have wanted a new season. However, since the documentary will have some additional footage, fans might be content with what they are getting.

Are there any plans for a proper Gilmore Girls reunion show or special?
No, there are currently no plans for a full-fledged reunion show for Gilmore Girls. However, almost a decade after the conclusion of the original Warner Bros. series, Netflix did try to revive the show. Back in 2016, the streaming platform debuted Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The official summary of the Netflix series read, “Set nearly a decade after the finale of the original series, this revival follows Lorelai, Rory and Emily Gilmore through four seasons of change.”
The cast saw the comeback of Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham, who reprised their roles of Rory and Lorelai. However, the series only lasted for four episodes. While it did not replicate its previous craze, the show’s creator did have some interesting words to share back in 2025. In an interview with TV Insider, Amy Sherman-Palladino said, “I love Stars Hollow. I love Lauren Graham more than life. I love Alexis, and Kelly Bishop is my ‘Contessa.”
