LIV Golf star's manager makes contact with PGA Tour over bombshell return

Lucas Herbert’s game has been in the headlines recently, and now his manager has been in contact with the PGA Tour amid a possible LIV Golf collapse.
LIV Golf is facing a possible shutdown after the PIF announced it would pull funding from the Saudi-backed circuit following the 2026 season, and it leaves many players with futures in question and CEO Scott O’Neil scrambling for investors.
Herbert finished tied for sixth at the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, and then he secured his first individual title at LIV Golf Virginia with a wire-to-wire victory, finishing first at 30-under-par and setting the record for the lowest individual score in LIV history at JCB.

Coming off a historic year featuring a top-six finish at the Open Championship and a record-breaking, wire-to-wire victory at LIV Golf UK, the tour star is evaluating his future playing opportunities amid the potential uncertainty facing LIV Golf.
“I haven't personally had any discussions but I think my manager has,” said Herbert, referring to conversations about his future on the PGA Tour.
“If LIV were to go away and you've got nowhere to play, I think ultimately you need somewhere to play as a professional golfer. So we're just doing due diligence, having that conversation. As I said, I haven't had it personally, and my preference would be to still be playing out here if that was still an option.”

However, his Ripper GC teammates had different answers and positive outlooks regarding the future of the Saudi-backed circuit.
“No, I haven't. No,” said Marc Leishman on whether he’s been speaking with other tours. “I'm confident there will be something next year.
“The team is working really hard, and I would certainly like to be here next year for sure, whether it looks how it does now or something different. I would assume if it is around it'll be something a little different, but I'm invested in this.”

One-time major winner Cameron Smith also has yet to open that can of worms with the PGA Tour.
“I'm contracted to the end of next year, so I was expecting to play until the end of next year and renegotiate and hopefully go on,” said Smith.
“What we've been able to do for golf in Australia is really quite important to me, junior golf, the Little Rippers, the event that we have down there, the people it brings out to showcase our great league. It would be a shame for all that to go away, and I feel like we've worked really hard over the last three or four years to kind of make that all happen.”
