Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly planning to stay out of Prince Harry’s potential Princess Diana documentary drama. The Prince and Princess of Wales are said to have drawn a firm line around next year’s anniversary coverage, choosing not to get involved in any projects surrounding the occasion.
According to a new report, William rejected documentary offers because he did not want to be “pitted against” his estranged brother. Meanwhile, Harry was reportedly exploring a commemorative film featuring Diana’s friends and family.
Prince William and Kate Middleton will reportedly not be drawn into Prince Harry’s Diana documentary drama
According to a Daily Mail report, Prince William and Kate Middleton are planning to remain publicly silent over the ongoing controversy surrounding Princess Diana’s memoir and a potential documentary.
The outlet reported that they “will never be publicly drawn into the row over Earl Spencer’s book about Diana.” It added that the couple would also avoid “Harry’s apparent wish to make a new documentary about her.”
Meanwhile, William was reportedly “furious” over the memoir and its alleged impact on King Charles. Despite this, the Prince and Princess of Wales are said to remain “completely focussed on their royal and charitable duties.” A source claimed that their position “will not change” despite Earl Spencer continuing to promote his book.

For context, Prince William and Prince Harry appeared together in the 2017 ITV documentary, “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life And Legacy.” This marked the 20th anniversary of their mother’s death. However, William reportedly rejected the idea of taking part in another documentary for the 30th anniversary in 2027 after receiving several approaches.
William also reportedly held private talks with BBC director-general Tim Davie last week. However, the report claimed that he “will not take any part in a documentary” commemorating Diana’s anniversary. According to one source, William did not want himself and Harry “pitted against each other.” Meanwhile, Harry reportedly reached out to Diana’s friends and family about potentially joining a commemorative film.
Separately, royal author Omid Scobie said Harry had “made it no secret” that he wanted to reconcile with William. However, when asked whether the anniversary could help improve their relationship, he said, “I can’t see it making any difference.” He added, “One can always hope.”
Scobie also dismissed speculation that Middleton could mediate between the brothers, saying she had “very little to do with that relationship between the brothers.” Meanwhile, William and Kate reportedly planned to keep “their thoughts to themselves.” Moreover, they are expected to maintain their stance of staying out of the Diana documentary dispute.
