Rich Paul: 'I haven't had one conversation' with LeBron about future

Little by little, the time is approaching for LeBron James to decide which NBA team he will play for next season, or whether he will simply retire this offseason. He recently said he will not make a decision until sometime this summer, possibly until August, and some are wondering whether he has already made a decision and is simply playing it close to the vest.

If James has already made a decision about his future, someone who would know is Rich Paul, his longtime friend and agent. But Paul said during a recent appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" that he hasn't talked to the 41-year-old about free agency yet.

"Believe nothing that's out there because I haven't had one conversation with him," Paul said. "At the end of the season I made it clear that I would respect he and the family, because this is gonna be a family decision for him.

"... So whatever decision he decides to make, that is his decision. He doesn't need to make a decision for anybody but himself in this regard. But there's been no conversation. I have not had one conversation with him. We played a couple rounds of golf, I don't mention it. When he comes to me and wants to sit down, I am more than prepared for every scenario that there could be. But when you think about numbers that's being thrown out, what we're asking about and all these things, that's all false. We haven't had one conversation with anybody about anything. So I'll continue to give him his time and when he's ready to talk, we'll talk."

No matter what James and Paul decide or have decided will be their top priority as far as choosing a team for next season, money will undoubtedly be a big factor. The superstar cannot be offered more than the mid-level exception by the Cleveland Cavaliers or Golden State Warriors, the two teams other than the Lakers he could reportedly be interested in playing for. The Lakers, on the other hand, are projected to have roughly $50 million in salary cap space this summer.

According to Kurt Helin of NBC Sports, James and Paul will ask L.A. for a max contract. There have also been reports that at least imply James will listen to the team if it offers him less than the max when it comes to its plans to upgrade the rest of its roster.
