Skubal strikes out six in Dodgers' debut against Cubs

Tarik Skubal made his first start for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.
The former Tigers ace and two-time Cy Young winner, who was dealt late Saturday night Detroit to L.A. ahead of the trade deadline, made his Dodgers debut at Wrigley Field and pitched six innings.
Skubal allowed two runs, including one on a home run by Danny Swanson in the third inning. He allowed just four hits, two of those in his final inning. He walked two and struck out six in his first start at Wrigley. He left with the Dodgers down, 2-1.
The Tigers acquired three prospects from the Dodgers for Skubal, who will be a free agent at season’s end. Tigers president Scott Harris said Monday it’s been clear for a long time that Detroit wouldn’t be in any position to sign Skubal long-term.
The Tigers acquired Triple-A pitcher River Ryan, Double-A outfielder Zyhir Hope and High-A pitcher Brady Smith from the Dodgers. Hope is a top-25 prospect in baseball by some prospect rankers.

Skubal pitched his entire major-league career with the Tigers until Tuesday. Detroit drafted him in the ninth round in 2018 out of Seattle University.
Depending how the Dodgers set their rotation, Skubal could pitch against the Tigers at Comerica Park during a series scheduled for Aug. 28-30.
