Tom Holland is back as Spider-Man, not that anyone remembers him.

On Wednesday, March 18, Marvel Studios released the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth entry in Holland's Spider-Man series and its first film since 2021's No Way Home.

The new movie sees Holland's real-life fiancée, Zendaya, reprise her role as Michelle "M.J." Jones, while Jacob Batalon returns to portray Peter Parker's best friend Ned and Jon Favreau reprises his long-running Marvel Cinematic Universe role as Happy Hogan.

Coming off the shocking ending of No Way Home, Peter Parker is grappling with the new reality that his loved ones no longer remember him or who he is to them.

"Hi, my name is Peter Parker. You don’t remember me, but we used to know each other," Peter says in a voice over. "Something bad was going to happen and the only way to stop it was to make everyone forget about me. Because I’m not just Peter Parker, I’m Spider-Man."

This new normal comes with some harsh realities for Peter, who we see visiting M.J. and Ned's apartment as M.J. appears to have a new boyfriend, who caresses her face lovingly.

Peter also begins to lose his Spidey abilities as we see him shirtless and hanging upside-down in one scene as he desperately tries and fails to shoot webs before falling off the side of a building and being caught just in time.

Mark Ruffalo reprises his long-running MCU role as Bruce Banner / the Hulk in the movie, but Bruce doesn't remember Peter, who comes to him for advice.

"If DNA is mutating, it could be enormously dangerous," Bruce warns Peter.

Another voice over warns Peter of what is to come, saying, "Spiders have three life cycles, when between cycles it can leave the spider vulnerable to threats. And for those spiders who make it through, it amounts to a kind of rebirth."

Marvel fans were also treated to several fan-favorite returning characters including Michael Mando's villain Scorpion, who last appeared in Holland's first Spider-Man entry, 2017's Homecoming.

Jon Bernthal, who has played the antihero Punisher (Frank Castle) in several Marvel projects, reprised the role, working directly opposite Holland in the trailer as the two supers face off.

The trailer ended with a cute nod to the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man as M.J. thanks Peter for a bouquet of flowers, he calls a housewarming gift.

"I’m just a neighbor from across the hall," he tells her .

"Friendly neighbor," M.J. replies, causing him to choke on his drink.

Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas and Marvin Jones III are among the movie's new cast members.

Holland's last Spider-Man entry ended with everyone who knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man completely forgetting him, leaving him isolated from his friend and girlfriend as they prepared to head off to college. “We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker, and he was gonna focus on being Spider-Man, because being Peter Parker was too hard. So that’s what the movie is about," producer Amy Pascal told Deadline in December 2024.

Brand New Day is directed by filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Marvel's 2021 movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Holland notably sustained a mild concussion while filming the movie in England in September 2025; the actor posted on Instagram days after the incident that he was "feeling better and on the mend" after he left an event associated with his charity The Brothers Trust early.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will hit theaters on July 31, 2026, just two weeks after Holland and Zendaya costar in The Odyssey, in theaters July 17.
