It’s college football season, and among the face paint and finger food at your tailgate, you might see a famous face — even more likely if you’re at one of these schools where the celebrity superfans are particularly noteworthy.

From graduates of the school such as Will Ferrell and Renée Zellweger to hometown heroes including LeBron James and Johnny Knoxville, these stars have been boosting their college football program at home and on the road, even writing songs about them (and in the case of Jon Bon Jovi, setting sail on a Notre Dame-themed yacht). So, okay, maybe he won’t be eating wings at your tailgate, but check out who else is famous for their college football fandom.

With an album called Tailgates & Tanlines,, this country star is no stranger to college football. Having graduated from the University of South Carolina, Rucker previously told PEOPLE, “I was fortunate enough to go there for college and meet some great people. Born and raised in Kansas, it seemed appropriate for the Modern Family star to attend Kansas State University. Stonestreet even made a special team visit during a practice in 2011. “We appreciate what you do on this field,” he said in a video from the day. “If it can happen for me and my goals and dreams, it can happen for you guys right here on this field with all the hard work that you guys do.”

As an Iowa native, Ashton Kutcher’s love for his home team runs deep. He even gave a virtual commencement speech for the University of Iowa class of 2020, mentioning his plan to finish with a degree in biochemical engineering (which he scrapped for his Hollywood career). LeBron James loves the Ohio State University from head to toe — quite literally. In 2025 he gifted the team special cleats for their game against Penn State. He wears their gear on the way to his own games. And when he declared his free agency, the team offered to recruit him (we’re sure he had to think pretty hard before passing on the offer to join the Philadelphia 76ers).

It’s rare to see Renee Zellweger out without her Longhorns cap — she attended UT, where she got bitten by the acting bug and made her debut in Dazed and Confused opposite another superfan, Matthew McConaughey.
